I have always taken to heart the preamble of our constitution which starts with
''We The People of the United States”.
Because I was born in this country, I automatically became a citizen, and voting was the first act as a citizen that I could do to participate in our government.
I felt that it was my responsibility as well as an honor and a privilege to go and vote.
There was a time I would not have been allowed to vote simply because I was a female, and
knowing that black citizens also had to fight for their right to vote gave me a deep sense of responsibility to make the effort to vote.
